Ladies In Red, Cucumbers Soon, and Pumpkin Seedlings

There are a few small cucumbers just getting started.

Mini pumpkin seedlings direct sown about 2 weeks ago. To my surprise some survived the squirrel rampage.

Summer

Summer arrived with it's expected heat and humidity. Rain and storms were predicted but we only got showers and the plants really need a good soaking. It's tomato time and I thought I'd be eating my own tomatoes by now but not yet. My cucumber seedling have grown but have a long way to go. Trying to keep continuous color June till August can be difficult unless annuals are planted so today, I opted for some red dwarf dahlias to possibly add some needed color to the flower bed until the ones growing reach some height and start blooming. Inside alstroemeria and other cut flowers bring needed  blooms to the house. I envy those who have cutting gardens and can snip arrangements on demand.

The seasons go by so fast. Fall is quickly approaching and I need to start my list of chores that include some painting outside. Saving the trim up high for a painter. Still plan on starting to paint the porch floor. Most important is getting the heater and chimney cleaned. The ongoing process of decluttering, organizing, and donating items to Goodwill continues. And, I still haven't started making new cushions for the porch. Soon.

Alstroemeria my sunshine in the house.

My Callie

Everything on the porch is green. Took care of that today with some added color and blooms. The miniature rose is so sweet smelling.

If I could get out there... We have to keep her on lock down. She's a rescue and shoots for the door when it opens. Callie's a good girl and has brought joy to the house with her presence.
Home for the summer. Hopefully it makes it back to work alive.

Dahlia
Hope you're enjoying your garden.

The Weekend

First bloom and waiting for the pink ones to bloom. This was the only surviving white pelargonium seedling.

Warm and a nice breeze today today. It's beautiful though.
Came outside to take pictures and he was in my flower bed digging.

Delphinium
Daylilies finishing.
Part of what the squirrel was digging and eating. Tulips are still in the ground from early spring. I guess he'll eat all summer.
Waiting for the ornamental onion to bloom.

What happened to the grass?
Salvia
The montauk daisies should be pretty this fall.

Lambs ear patch. Most died and this little bit survived. I ordered a new seedling although I do have seeds and started the original patch several years ago from seed.
I like the blooms of the lambs ear. Some people cut them off.

That's a big coral bell.

About time for the arborvitae to go. I knew they'd grow so don't know why I'm surprised.
Seed pods from the poppies.
The baptisia is only surviving not thriving. Maybe it's only getting established the first year.

Poison ivy. I sprayed it and it laughed at me. Looked the same the next day.

Was it sweet? No. Could have kept it on longer to get deep red but I wouldn't be the one eating it. They were supposed to be a very sweet berry. Oh well.

Something besides me has been eating.

I can see the blackberries. Not many though, Maybe next year
Didn't plan on working in the yard but branches from the tree and leaves covered the yard. It was also past due to spread a humus/compost mix and mulch. It felt good in the yard with a strong winds and shade. Much better than out front yesterday.

Pulled the broccoli, enriched the soil with compost and aged manure and planted pumpkin seeds for miniature pumpkins.
