Saturday

I'm happy having some blooms in the house until spring. Not long, it's almost February then March.

Waiting to smell the hyacinths.

I hope to make some time this weekend to start my first seeds.

Hawk or Owl

I think it's a red shouldered hawk. I've lived here 30 years and have never seen a hawk in my yard. I'm excited.

My daughter saw this out the bedroom window. It's discovered birds at my feeder. Poor birds. But love the hawk.

Snow outside Blooms Inside

I attended an orchid class last Saturday at Primex Garden Center. Loved the class and learned a lot about orchid care. Maybe I can keep the ones in my house alive. Haven't done too bad as some cattleya orchids I purchased last March at the Philadelphia Flower Show are still alive. One died though. It had insects and a fungal infection. I purchased this spider plant and another orchid and some other items while there.

The green and gray tray are for my seedlings to sit on when I start them. Inexpensive from Target. I forgot a wire hanger for my orchid basket.
Today was our second snow storm this week. While snow fell, I enjoyed blooms in the house. I want to start some seeds probably pansies and stock. Maybe tomorrow. My amaryllis are starting to open.

From Home Depot

Temperatures in Philly have been below freezing this week, so I brought in the hyacinths I've been forcing on the porch indoors. Last winter I left them out during a freeze and all of my vases busted. Just purchased these this winter and don't want to lose them. They look ready to come into the warmth.

I've spent all day near the fire since waking up early this morning between shoveling snow and cleaning off the car. We had a snow day off from work today. Wonderful start to the weekend.

Can't wait to see her, the lady in red. That's not the real name of course.

I burned that wood today.

This is what happens when you keep putting off planting them. I left them in the bag they came in and when I looked inside today found this. I'll put them in water and maybe they'll straighten out and stand tall. I've never grown them in water before. In our hemisphere we're getting more hours of day light. Spring is near.
