Planting Container Bulbs

Bulb planting day on the porch and thinking of fall bulb catalogues arriving, lol.

Narcissus left for the window box, muscari for the front flower bed, and tulips for containers on the steps. I'll plant them next week then I'll finally be done.

White hyacinths to go into pots.

I'll start with these.

Iris

Tulips

Topped off with potting soil and watered. Time to start growing roots.

Dahlia tubers left on the porch. Thought they were frozen and dead but not so. I'll put them in the basement with my sweet potato tuber till spring.

When do you start watering cyclamens again?

Shouldn't pelargoniums be dormant? I haven't watered it but it's making new growth. Thought it was too cold on the porch but they make it there this winter. I did water it a little today and hope that wasn't a bad decision.

I cleaned up a little bit.

Out front.

Wintersun paper whites will soon bloom. Think I'll like these more than the variety I usually buy.

I was still waiting for my daughter to add ornaments to the tree. I've since started to add them. It'll soon be time to take it down and start seeds. Looking forward to ordering my small selection before they good selections are gone.

My pine garland seems to have disappeared. But it's in the house somewhere. I used my old garland and would love live garland this year but it would be so dry by Christmas. The smell would be wonderful but I'll have to enjoy it every time I enter the front door. Surprised to decorate some this year. I wasn't in the mood but love the lights since I've done some decorating.

Bulb Planting Day

Haven't planted bulbs this late in a few years. Weather did play a part in it with our first snow storm in November and rain on weekends which is really the only time to plant with less hours of day light after work. This is what I'm planting.

I'll save the narcissus for one window box. Since squirrels don't like them they shouldn't be eaten and I don't plan on covering them to protect them. Then there's the raccoons. Hopefully they don't eat them either because they climb my tree out front, hop in the box and climb onto the roof on the way to the yard.

Bought more bulbs than I thought with others on the porch for pots and a small amount for the flower bed.

There's enough to clean in the yard to take all winter.

The last of the leaves have fallen.

It beautiful today. Cold and crisp.

About an inch of the ground is frozen. It took patience and time to dig each area.

Narcissus

Remove the dead box wood. Can't believe it died. The only reason I can think of is all the rain we've had.

Planted these and covered.

The soil was nice and soft below the frozen top.

Putting the frozen soil back on top.

Have to wash this down and coat it, soon.

The squirrels would have a feast.

So glad to be finished with planting in the yard. It should be a beautiful display this spring.

Felt bad for the birds and squirrels and put back the bird feeders but changed it's place so it would be easier to clean up the shells from the sunflower seeds.

And some hazelnuts. Looking forward to seeing them find them.

Amaryllis Christmas is showing out. She's beautiful.

You planted your bulbs?
